Cosmosys
Congratulations for being chosen as Featured Artist for Cosmosys' 7th exhibition Freestyle. Let's start with telling us a bit about yourself. Where are you from and how did you get in touch with digital art ?
Ricardo Andres Becerra
Yay! Well my name is Ricardo Andres Becerra, I’m 23 years old and I’m from Columbia. At the momento I’m studying Graphic Design. I started digital art because of anime if not I wouldn’t be here. What caught my attention was those Little squares that I would see on everyones signature which I call “signatures”. I liked them so i started looking for tutorials the more I would find the more i would like them. After a while I said to myself I want to experiment in larger canvas’ that’s where I met Illustrator. I started vectorizing the anime girl characters that I liked. The time came when i wanted to do something more than vectorizing anime characters which is at the stage im now in.

Which artists you believe that have influenced your work the most?
Ricardo Andres Becerra
The artist that have influenced me the most are Piccaso, Da Vinci, and my favorite Salvador Dali. From digital art i have no artist, though I love to see all the art from evey art collective there is, they have some awesome stuff.
Cosmosys
You have developed a very interesting style of your own. How much time do you usually spend on creating your illustrations ?
Ricardo Andres Becerra
Last year I wouldn’t spend much time on my art. Now I’m actually spending from 1 to 2 weeks or more on each piece depending on the time i have to invest in the studio.
Cosmosys
You have now been part of Cosmosys for over a year now, what influenced you in joining the group?
Ricardo Andres Becerra
Before I didnt know anything about art collectives until last year, I applied at hysterical minds and I submitted an application, I was actually surprised that they accepted me. Some months passed and I applied for Intrinsic Nature, they denied me, so Martin aka –M—talked to me about Cosmosys and told me, “this collective will be great for the evolution of your style” I still remember those exact words. It caught my attention and at the time there wasn’t many artists but there was many different interesting styles so I decided to try it out. Some circumstances occured but here i am after 1 year with you.

Most of your artworks are awesome illustrations, they seem to be made in Illustrator, what is the process? How do you come up with such amazing concepts and colors?
Ricardo Andres Becerra
Thank you =3. Firstly I créate a piece in my head, then i look for an image based on my concept which for the most part they are “heads”. Then I vectorize such image and started adding elements that I had when I first thought of the concept. I add and take away all the time, the design is mostly on sketch mode i dont add any color until the lines are right. I stop for a while, import the image, I look at it and decide what I like and dont like.
The concepts are always surreal I love surrealism, taking the forms into another state, another concept, leaving the “normal” to the side. I combine the futuristic with the realistic. The coloring is one of the hardest steps in the process. I have the color in my head but its like a puzzle trying to get the right color. I always look for a certain harmony in colors, i like looking for colors you dont see everywhere, colors that I call “extraterrestrial”.

Outside of your own work, what was your favorite contribution to the exhibition?
Ricardo Andres Becerra
I loved Clyzm’s submission, “Peyote”. Everything is related to the exterior world, it fascinates apart from that it’s an amazing piece.
Cosmosys
Who is the most inspiring individual to you? What impact have they had on your art?
Ricardo Andres Becerra
I’ll be honest with you, I have no inspirational artist, my inspiration has always been to live.
Cosmosys
Why do you use ";_;..." a lot?
Ricardo Andres Becerra
Jajajajajaja…Well, the truth behind this “;_;”, comes from when I started, around that time i felt as if i was turning emo, since i would be inspired by sad things, and now in days i always carry with me in my comments my dear ;_;…
Cosmosys
Thank you for sharing so much about yourself in this interview! Do you have any last words for our readers?
Ricardo Andres Becerra
I want to thank every single artista in every collective im in, for having the patience, for all the advice and support they’ve given me. They are always my motivation and thanks to Cosmosys for this Interview.
To everyone that Loves digital art, practice, practice, practice, to me the Word “perfect” does not exist. And Always, Always, Always, finish your work, don’t leave it at mids and also be proud of what you did even if it’s BAD, or if others don’t like it, if you like it yourself the rest doesn’t matter.
